I have the furler system and was curious how other sailers step the mast

with the sail wrapped around the forestay on a windy day when I step the mast it sometimes becomes unfurled before I can connect the forestay to the furler

what I have come up with is to put a jib snorkel over the jib before stepping the mast then removing it after I get everything set so I can unfurl the jib, attach the jib sheets to the jib then pull the string on the furler to refurl the jib so I can put the boat in the water and raise the main.

There has to be an easier way, I doubt everyone sailing a 14T has a cover for the jib, especially if they trailer it and are removing the sails, so I'm asking how everyone else does it

Thanks in advance for your responses

Put a bungie cord in the clew around the jib and back in the clew. On my friends Getaway, there is a loop on the sail a few inches fom the clew that the snap hook on the clew can snap in.

The jib I bought arrived tied together using bits of sail cloth as a ribbon. I just use one of those ribbons and it holds it together nicely. A piece of string would do it too.

I use a bungie clew to clew and it works great to keep it all together till I'm all set up to launch.
