Hi Guys,

Hoping someone may help me out with the correct length measurement of an original H14 tiller crossbar - non adjustable.
I'm sure mine has been cut shorter at some point in it's life - needs to be replaced...

Thanks very much,
Jim

The H14 old type tiller crossbar had an extrusion length of 74". Not including end fittings.

When you think the tiller crossbar is too short... often the issue is the rudders mounted on the wrong hulls / reversed.

Tiller arms should bow inboard. Align a rudder with the hull and sight forward along the hull from directly behind the rudder. If the tiller arm bows outboard. Swap the rudder assemblies.

Thanks Matt,

My rudders are on the right way, the existing crossbar is about 70.5"...!
So that difference to 74" is about what my "eyeball" check indicated - but I certainly didnt think that nearly 4" short would be valid.

Now to find some aluminium tube in Australia with the correct inside diameter.

Have seen other posts where you mention setting the toe-in, I'm guessing at 74" this will give a toe pretty close to right. Though I can micro adjust by length of crossbar I cut anyway...

Thanks very much,
Jim

Couple of options...

Maybe simply tweaking the tiller bend can help correct your issue.

Adding adjustable ends (makes the crossbar longer)? #60400011 or 1953?

I have an extra H16 tiller crossbar that I'm going to trim down for my 14 and put H20 connectors on. I read above that the original H14 tiller crossbar length was 74". I assume that "original" means with the original tiller connectors and end caps. What is the factory recommended H14 tiller crossbar length for use with H20 style connectors?

Thanks,

There are instructions for the 1953 Kit that will work on any boat which has adjustable ends... if you have an older one, you would have to shorten it.

Looks like 73 7/8 is the H14 tiller crossbar with adjusters.
