Post subject:  Bridle bolts pulled out

Bought a used H14 recently from 92. While rigging today the bridle bolts complete came out of the hull. Thinking 1 side failed first, then the other, then the mast came down. My first assessment was the lack of a backing plate of any sort. But after cleaning up the holes and checking with a longer bolt it seems there is a backing plate. Can somebody confirm this?

Longer bolts seem an easy fix. The Fiberglas was not really damaged, but the holes have opened up a bit to the point the bolts can wiggle a bit when not fully seated. Any suggestions for a good product to use to tighten up the holes a bit? I would like to re-create the original thread engagement.

Thanks for any feedback

There is a 1/4" thick square aluminum plate molded-into the bow. You can use the next larger bolt, tap threads into it if not too badly corroded or worn.

Thanks Matt,
The plate is in good shape it seems. The previous owner put in bolts that were too short. I prototyped a fix for the slightly opened hole in the Fiberglas and will implement it this weekend. Should be out on the water shortly after that.
