first, my terminology is lacking, so bare with me.... the block setup for the main sail that slides back and forth accross the stern for tacking has some bolts and wing nuts (they don't look factory) locked into the track at about 1/3 of the way from either end, restricting how far the block assembly will slide back and forth. I'm not sure if this is an aftermarket repair of an original piece of hardware designed to restrict the movement of the block so that you don't let your sail out too far, or did the previous owner just rig these things up to keep their saling safer or so that the boat didn't get out of control? any ideas? should I pull them off and allow the block to have full range of motion from one side to the other? hopefully this is making sense.

Yes! The traveler should be able to go to the end of the track!

why would those stops be there? do you think they did it to limit how far out their sail would go? seems odd.... i'm going to remove them.

No clue? When your going down wind you want the traveler to be able to go out all the way. Can ya post a pic? Maybe it was part of a mast support for trailering? My 16 came with a deal that would lock into the track with some T bolt type things.
