I added 5" hull access ports (Viking) to my previous H17. I now own a H14 and was thinking about adding the same ports about 5" forward of the tramp post in the non-skid area on the deck. A little MarineTex maybe needed to keep the port sitting flat on the deck? Anyway, maybe someone has already done this mod and can offer some advice before I start cutting holes! Thanks, Bob |

Ditto- don't put it in front of the front pylon. Anywhere behind the front pylon should be ok however keep in mind that there is a large foam flotation block between the pylon posts. This will limit the storage space inside the hulls. The port will still be helpful in keeping the hull ventillated. If you use contoured access ports, you won't need to do much if any shimming, just caulk with silicone. Also, 5" ports may be a bit large for the 14 deck. You might want to consider using a 4" port. sm |

Just buy an extra dry bag for your stuff. Save drilling holes in your boat for when it needs repairs! x3 or 4? on not putting them infront of the tramp! |

One of the main advantages of access ports is that they provide much improved air circulation for hull ventillation. Without them, there will virtually always be moisture in the hulls which can potentially cause issues over the long term. sm |

Bob I bought a 14 (1970 as near as I can determine) in pretty rough shape a couple of years ago. One hull was much heavier than the other, with no obvious water in it. So I installed a hatch and stuck a light bulb in there for weeks. It worked - now the hulls are within 5# of each other. Used this link for advice. I put it behind the front pylon, but you have to miss the foam block inside the hull and the pylon base. Lots of discussion on the boards about locating the hatch. http://www.thebeachcats.com/news/29/ins ... cle29.html Also put in new drain hardware and plugs.
