Just pulled in the yard and parked this (new to me)old Hobie 14. Where should I get new drain plugs from? Rudder pins are plastic and one is broken off. Should put in Aluminum ones? Got one soft spot forward port hull and one fracture aft port hull? Any suggestions for repair?

Thank you,

Tony :?:

Another 14 about to come back from the dead! When you're done fixing her up, you'll love it.

Here's a link to the Hobie website where you can request a catalog and find a dealer (if one is located where you are). I resurrected a much worse boat over the past couple of years - but no soft spots. Used fiber glass rudder pins - for my sailing needs they're holding up well. I don't know of any resource that gives the most-to-least strengths of the 4 types of pins you can buy - anyone?

Lots of information about soft spot repair on this forum - use the search feature and read up on it. Doesn't seem too hard to do. Does the other puncture penetrate into the inside of the hull?

the ss ones are the strongest alum. in 2ed and fiber glass in last because they are designed to snap if they get hit hard.

My favorite source of parts is Mariner Sails, the Dallas Hobie dealer. If you don't live near Dallas, don't worry, they'll ship parts anywhere. They have a big parts inventory and a knowlegable staff. Their site has online part diagrams that are fantastic. You can see every part for your Hobie, get part numbers, and see how much they cost. Visit them at: http://www.mariner-sails.com/. Click on the "Hobie Cat" tab on the menu on the left side of the home page and navigate from there. Typically, if they have your part in stock, and they usually do, they'll ship the same day via UPS if you order before noon. Free shipping for military.
