I have been concerned about the possibility of my rudder pins falling out when the boat capsizes..

The rudder pins that I ordered have a coder pin at the top to keep the pin from sliding all the way through but there are no holes on the very bottom of the pin to install any coder pins or rings to keep the pin from sliding back up out. Should I try to drill a small hole at the very bottom of each rudder pin and insert a ring/pin or am I just worrying about nothing.

has anyone ever had the rudders fall off when the boat capsizes?

You absolutely need to worry! Rudder pins certainly can drop out if the boat is upside down (turtled). Not sure how you found rudder pins with no bottom hole unless you received some Nacra/Hobie/Prindle universal pin. Hobie (and others) sell the same rudder pin for the 14 and 16 but the pins for the 14 need to be shorter in order not to block the drain plugs. Cut and drill them. Obviously... put them in and mark them first.

Yeah I thought so. Glad to hear I'm not worrying over nothing. I will drill those today! Thanks for the response.
