Batten pockets stitching

Some of the stitching on my batten sleeves is coming undone. Nothing is torn or worn out, but If it keeps going they could completely fall off. Is there an easy way to get these sewn back in?

Send or take to a sail loft for repairs is easiest.

Small areas of damaged stitching can be easily repaired by hand using a simple needle and thread if you have basic sewing skills. You want to use nylon thread (check out sailrite.com). Dental floss will also work in a pinch. Start about 5 stitches or so before the damaged area and simply pass the needle through the existing stitch holes, retracing the old stitches. If there are several layers of fabric, it can be difficult to push the needle through by hand. Use a pair of pliers to push and pull the needle through the sail. I’ve done this several times to make minor repairs on my sails. It takes a little time but beats paying a sailmaker to do an otherwise simple job.

Thanks SRM. That seems pretty simple. If I sailed without fixing the
Stitching, would I do damage?

The batten pockets are formed by overlapping the panels of the sail. If the seam fails, eventually the sail will come apart. An inch or so of missing stitching is probably ok, but best to just fix it early before it gets worse.
