Looking at my old mouse eaten sails that came with my very old H14, I am thinking about trying to make my own set of sails for just bumming around with. Other than the head and foot panels, it looks to be just 36" wide panels with no 'shape' sewn into them for the majority of the sail. Is this correct? Or is there a subtle fullness that I am missing?

Also, why 36" when all sail cloth comes in 54-60" widths? Is there any place to get a roll of 36" wide material so that I am not wasting so much material?

Lastly, I have the original 5 batten main, as well as a decent 6 batten main. It looks like the 6 batten design would be much easier to assemble. Is that why the switch? Or was it due to a performance difference? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
