I've been asleep for a month (winter doldrums) so I missed your post. You may have found it on a search, but if not...feedback from my trip last summer.

If you get an opportunity for NMB, do it.

There used to be an area right beside the Garden City Pier, but I think they may have it all fenced in now. (Rather South of Myrtle I know) My experience there was that you had to get to the beach at the break of day to avoid all the people that love to park their trucks in front of the only access to the beach. Then by the time the sea breeze kicked in you would have to wait an unbelievably long time for the swimmers to give you enough room to get out. Coming back in was the same. Ultimately a real pain trying to sail down there.

i have a house a NMB thats why, it sucks for anything but tourism.....i know not for but its a free house my parents let me stay in so no complaints. I might try bald head island we go there alot. so will see. I could pull it to another beach for the day though, i know its close so that could definetly work.

I was visiting a friend in NMB a few weeks ago and spotted a good place to launch a hobie. There is a public access behind some condos, I'll have to give him a call to find out where it was we were partying when I noticed this. It's definately wide enough for a 16 to get through. My gears were turning about bringing my hobie down next time I go visit.

I sail out of Windy Hill all summer long. You need to know how to get in and out thru the breakers or you will hurt someone and the lifeguards will ban you. My 18 will be down there in June and will stay until Sept. Where are you in NMB and I can tell you where to launch and keep your boat. Hit me up directly ncmbm at hotmail dot com.

You could easily put it in Hog Inlet. Cherry Grove is the worst area in NMB. The erosion up there has been bad and as a result there are seawalls up everywhere. High tide comes up to those walls. I suggest you put the boat at Ocean Drive or better yet right between on Tillmans beach. The lifeguards can be helpful if you befriend them. I am able to get them to clear the water for me to launch if needed and they will watch over the boat when I'm gone. Lifeguards can be your best ally on the beach. Beach front police are a different story, make sure you know the coast guard regs and can quote them. I have had several altercations with the law thru the years, they leave me alone now because they are aware that I know the rules better than they do. Even had the Coasties call them and straighten them out once!

Hope to see you on the water this summer!!

The best place to put in around Myrtle Beach is 77th Ave North.
Good beach access from street end.
33.743 x 78.813
http://www.mapquest.com/#ff2292d0e89847773fd05122

Out of main hotel district so crowds are not really an issue.
A few Hobies off of 79th N. and a few around 57TH N. (Seaside Place)
