Tionesta- this is a good area to sail although there are alot of motor boats, the water is about 15-20 feet deep, good long runs and enough room to come about if you dont have a jib.

Pymatuning- Big area- runs the border of PA and dips into ohio, good days will produce 30 mph winds bad days it can be dead calm, have seen several hobies out there on the lake.

Post subject:  PA - Lakes Erie and Arthur

I live in New Brighton, PA and have two lakes I go sail at. 25min away is Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park. It's over 3,000 acres but most of the best sailing is on the west end. The wind is really shifty with lots of buffs and not always there but it's always fun and it teaches you how to sail. I've done a large spirel covering over 1 1/2 miles all on a port tack. Two weeks ago we had over 10 cats there thoughout the day. Picnic tables and grills on site. Go to Watts bay on the North Shore of the lake. Just off of exit 99 on I-79.
Lake Erie is the second lake I sail on. It's a 2hr drive for me but it opens up a whole new world for sailing on a lake. Most times the wind comes from the west. You can sail out until your neck is sore from looking to the left, turn around head back to shore. My gps shows 7 miles as the furthest I've gone but always with a group of boats. Beach 10 in Presque Isle Sate Park is set up for getting your boat to the water with cat tracks. Most times if the wind is over 10 knots there will be boats there. Always make sure you have another boat to sail with for safety. 3 weeks ago we had 26kts and 4' waves, you want to talk about flying off of waves and having some fun. It's not always that rough and offers 12kts with <2' waves thats great for the whole family. It's exit 182 off of I-79

Happy Sailing,

Buxton
