Hey has anyone ever sailed ( not during the cat fight) at muskegon state park. I want to take my 16 there and im not sure if there are restriction on where you can beach it and if its better to keep it in lake mustkegon or michigan. Any information on sailing there or somewhere close by that might be better would be great.

thanks

Joshua

I have tryed to use the state park at north muskegon before many times with little success. The park officers DNR can,t or won't make a clear policy with reguards to beach access. It is just not worth the time or problem. However on the south side of the river at muskegon lake to lake Michigan a local park has a nice sand beach to put in on and a large parking lot to set up on, you will need your beach wheels and don't keep your boat over night on this one, not a large police force to keep an eye on things.
good luck

Sonofa...

You can launch easily from the south side next to the bar in the protected bay between the piers and sail out into the big lake (bring your wheels).

Or you can sail from the same side (south side) in Muskegon Lake.

The Harbor Master will charge about $85.00 a year if you opt to leave it staked up. I had three boats there without any problems, 2-Hobies and a Nacra (95 vintage). Once in a while there may be some minor vandalism but I have never seen it. People keep an eye on the boats and if someone is messing with them they do report it to the local "rangers
or coast guard. There is also a web cam trained on the Lake Michigan cat beach.

It is a good deal to leave it especially if you do not like to trail sail it. You can not beat sailing with 30'+ monohulls that pay BIG $ for slips and you are out there for $85.00 year with access to a bar (big lake side).

You can always change your mind and re-locate it to the Muskegon Lake side as it gets colder - all you will need is a good padlock.

I would also encourage you to at least try the CatFight - there needs to be more Hobies participating in the race.

Good luck!

Ken
