I just started sailing a Hobie 14 this year but have been sailing this lake for many years (Elevenmile res in Colorado)
Some pictures here:
http://analogengineering.com/elevenmile/lake_shots/ There is a section on sailing with some Hobie 14 and 18 shots near the bottom.
This is a windy place!!!! But its also at just under 8700 feet so it can be chilly. Ive been sailing the Hobie 14 using a NRS extreme dry suit and its as comfortable as "sitting in the car" even with big winds and wild splashing going on. Its also nice to step out of the dry suit at the end of the day nice and dry.
The ice goes in early April (its also one of the best lakes in Colorado for ice boating) with plenty of sailing days in the 60's F in April and it warms up into the 70's F. by June. April, May, June have LOTs of good windy days. July and August still have wind but its likely to be from a Thunder storm and will come up and go fast. The steadier winds return in Sept and October. Days will be limited in October because its getting cold and by Thanksgiving, the lake is usally just frozen over.
Ive been sailing off the North shore marina area because its convienent and has the boat dock. However, its also the launch area used by the fishermen and there isnt much area to beach the boats. But its a reliable place for wind, much windier than Denver in general.
