I am a new entry into the hobby, actually I've never sailed anything but a canoe by the old Scouting manual rigging. Anyone near the Truman Lake area willing to take on a student in sailing? Thanx!

Post subject:  poor wind on Truman Lake

Capt Bo, I used to live in Sedalia Mo and tried to sail Truman. I say tried because it sits in a hole and the wind is poor and I was only able to sail 30% of the times I went there.
Stockton Lake is much better for sailing in Mo. or Perry lake in Kansas. Good Luck

He is an enthusiastic hobie leader in the KC area, and can probably help you get started with some advice and maybe knows someone in your area that can help as well.

Post subject:  Places to Sail

Bo

I'm located in Columbia MO, there are 3 lakes within 2 hrs of Columbia, I prefer Thomas Hill Lake as it's an hour drive. There is always a good wind blowing and as the lake supplies a power plant at the south end, the water is pretty warm year round. I sail at least once a week, have a Hobie 14 Turbo and it's a blast. Never many boaters at this lake for some strange reason, maybe the power plant is nuclear and you glow at night after extended immersion. Anyway, feel free to contact me anytime.

Hey Bo,

I'm sorry, I must have been sleeping to let your post slip by like that. I'd much rather help you learn how to sail that 16 than sell it. As you know I have kin in your area and we've sailed Truman several times. Down by the dam is wide open to good air and as mentioned Stockton is well worth the trip. We'll be down for a family reunion around the first of October and we can come by to look over your boat with you.
