Post subject:  CA - Humboldt County

I'm up in Trinidad, CA in Humboldt County about 5-6 hours north of SF. There are a few lagoons, humboldt bay and a couple lakes ~2hrs inland all good places to sail. Pretty much there is good sailing all year round, if you are can handle the cold.

I've mainly been sailing my 16 at Big Lagoon, if theres any wind not coming from the SE-E-NE range then there is pretty good sailing. Seen a few H16's and an H14, quite a few windsurfers, as well as lasers and the usual monohulls. Not so great for bigger boats the lagoon gets very shallow in some places, the cove the boat ramp is in doesn't get any deeper than ~10ft. The whole lagoon is sandy so running aground/beaching isn't to much of an issue.

Also, done some sailing on Humboldt Bay. Good sailing, but it can get pretty rough when the wind picks up. I've been on the water when it was like that, but only when I was a coxswain for the Humboldt State Crew Team. Rowing shells make Hobie's look like dry boats. The only problems I've encountered on the bay are commercial boat traffic, large swells (& breaking waves) by the mouth, trying to sail against the tide in low wind, and the worst part is the water is disgusting.

Anybody else done any or currently sailing in or around Homboldt County? Don't really know to many sailors around these parts. There are definity other sailors around they're just really good at hiding...
