I have a 1982 H18 that I plan on sailing out of Brigantine this year. There are about 15 or so cats kept on the beach around Dolphin Drive. I know you need to register there, I'll do that. I'm trying to meet some of the other cat owners/sailors to get a sense of the sailing there. How's the weather/water?

Hey Chris, I'm in Ventner but i'm keeping my H16 in Brig this year. It's only my second year sailing but I will be out there a lot this year. I can't wait untill spring. I have to do a bottom job to my hulls but it should be on the beach in May. Aslo, a guy i work with is also keeping his H17 in Brig also. It should be a good time.

Chris, do you know if you are allowed to drive on the beach near the cat beach? Can I pull up next to my boat with my truck? Thanks.

Hi,
It's been a while since I checke this post. Happy to see everyone.

You can get to the cats by truck. The path to the beach gives great access. What I don't know is if you will require a 4x4 permit on top of the Cat permit to legally do so. I sure hope not.
As far as I know you only need the permit to store your cat on the beach...not launch. I'll give them a call and find out if there are any strict guidelines.

Here is a link to the Brigantine permit stuff: http://www.brigantinebeachnj.com/beach_boats.html

This is only my second year sailing too. I'll have the boat at Marsh Creek, PA until the weather gets warmer and we start going to Brig every weekend or so.

Ok, I just got my pass. $150 for the season (cash only). You don't need the 4x4 pass for access to the beach cat area.

I'm in the process of getting back into sailing....specifically hobie's. I'm planning on sailing out of Waretown. Are we required to have insurance on our hobie's to be able to get nj registration?

No insurance is required to register in jersey. If you plan on keeping your boat on a beach or club then you might need insurance depending on their policies. Happy Sailing.

We had the H18 out last weekend. There was a land breeze that allowed us to reach up and down the length of the coast. What a great time. I figure we sailed over 35 miles in about 3 hrs. The best part was having dolphins swim along side. Great day and we can't wait to do it again.

What did guys do to prep your hobie for hurricane Irene. I was in brig Thursday and all the boat were there. I pulled my h16 as high on the dune as I could and anchored it front and back... Not too sure I'll still have a have a hobie onMonday. I am thinking I should have untied the trampoline so it does not catch the wind...
