Post subject:  CA - Tahoe - places to stay
It looks like King's Beach is the recommended place to launch a beach cat at Tahoe.

However, if I want to trailer up to Tahoe for a multi-day trip what would be my options for keeping the boat rigged overnight?

I have a Hobie Getaway with a small electric motor ... so getting into awkward places is not a problem.

I have found some suitable rentals that have beach access.

So now a further question is when is a good time to go?

I am interested in comfortable cruising. We will be going with friends and have lots of kids with us who will be far less tolerant of cold.

Best time to go....Probably August/September. Maybe as early as June/July. The water is always very cold - too cold to swim. I've been there several times with our H 16. We stayed at Nevada Beach - South Lake Tahoe near the state line. Close to the casinos. Something to do at night.
We liked sailing & camping at Clear Lake better. The water is warmer. We camped in Lakeport.

Does camping at Clear Lake allow you to pull the boat out and leave it rigged at night?

Do you recommend a specific campsite?

Hi - It's been a while since we've been there. We stayed at Will-o-Point in Lakeport, CA. I still have their brochure & the phone # is/was??? (707)263-5407. There is a launch ramp nearby & we slept on our boat tramp at night. We woke up each morning to a large duck & a bunch of ducklings as they swam by our stern. Warm water, beautiful scenery, warm weather, strong wind in the afternoon, things to do & places to eat in town.
It was a perfect set-up except for the bathrooms. They were okay, but not great. I would go there often if it were closer to San Diego.
Clear lake is the largest lake in CA. Tahoe is larger, but part of it is in Nevada.
You can leave your boat set up at night at both Nevada Beach (Tahoe) & Will=o-Point (Clear Lake).

I've never heard anything bad about sailing on Clear Lake or the town of Lakeport.

I spent time in Tahoe for many years. That water can be down right brutal. I f you sail there a dry suit may be in order. The winds are really strong in the afternoon, much like our bay. Have fun, but take care!

Thanks to everyone for the info.

Based on your sage advice I am about to book a week vacation at Clear Lake where I found a property on the lake with a private beach for cat.

While searching for suitable properties I enquired to a number of owners if it would be possible to pull my Hobie Getaway (beach cat) out of the water.

Here is one of the replies I received:

"I'm not sure I understand your question about pulling your beach cat out of the water. The house is fully fenced and pet friendly. Your cat shouldn't be able to get into water."

There she be a law against landlubers owning waterfront property :)
