TCD, the longest dike in the US (11 miles long), rises only about five feet above the average water level in Galveston Bay. This allows all of the wind off of the Gulf to blow across effectively smooth water. About halfway out the Dike, a large group of cat sailors hit the beach all summer long.

I cruised up and down Laguna Madre, barhopping Padre Island on my Getaway. It was really cool to watch people watch you sail right up and step off onto the dock.

We'll be hitting the whole north half of San Francisco Bay, the Estuary in Alameda, the Delta region, and of course Santa Cruz this summer, so wish us luck. We've even thought about taking it to Vegas and sailing Lake Mead.

The Dike is an awesome place to sail. Nice smooth water and good wind. Check out this site for more info or to meet up with some local cat sailors: http://www.tcdyc.com/

Did some sailing down at the Texas City Dike the other weekend and put together a short clip from the footage. We shot it all using a Kodak Playsport from our H18. Be forewarned - its super cheesy and dramatic.
