I have a trimaran with an H16 comp tip mast. The main halyard hook ripped out of the fiberglass comp tip in moderate wind. Can a new on be re-rivetted or re-bedded? Do I need a new comp tip? An all aluminum mast?
Thanks,
Mitch

This is a real easy fix that will only cost you a few rivets and a piece of scrap aluminum plate (a piece cut out of an old mast works really well).

Take the mast head off and you should be able to see the "back side" of where the halyard hook was. (Might have to remove the foam plug, too.)

Fashion a backing plate out of aluminum - about 2"x3"x1/8" - bent in a curve to match the inside of the Comptip. Use the halyard hook as a template to drill the rivet holes, then re-mount the halyard hook with new SS rivets.

Re-install the hasthead and you're done.
