One of the forward boom cap casting, "tabs" broke.

I have the new, replacement boom cap (came with the used boat) and the tabs have no holes in them for hardware and I immediately thought of self-tapping screws. Original factory attachment method was obviously s/s rivets. I'm thinking Brad w/Sunjammers mentioned the option of using s/s screws, but maybe that was an aft cap job?

Would screws works? If so, self-tapping or should I drill and tap the tabs?

I don't have access to the rivet gun and need to take this boat West on Saturday, I'm looking for the "quick fix", if possible.

SS screws will work fine. You should drill out the hole to just under the size of the screw you will use. It is a compressive load on the cap so it does not have to be anything that will hold an elephant.

Later,
Dan

Thanks Dan,

I didn't think the load, other than maybe sheeted in with a lot of mast rotation would be a problem, but I'm selling the boat and wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something "cheesy" and have it fail prematurely.
