Post subject:  Mirage drive - bent fin rod

I was pedaling along in my Adventure and hit an underwater tree in a bayou (no more bayous with the drive in I think). The front (right foot) rod which goes inside the fin was bent back and slightly to the left.

Insight would be appreciated on how this might be fixed and if it's a good idea to try to bend it back in place - risk of breakage, and what kind of metal.
If I'm to attempt that I suppose the fin will have to removed first which I'd also appreciate info on.

The masts are stainless.

If the boat has a newer drive... one with masts that thread into brass in the sprocket. Bending the mast back is possible without even removing the fin, but removing the fin does make this easier. If it is an older boat (2 years?) with the sprockets using a set screw to hold the masts in... I'd advise removing the mast first and bending back in a vise.
