I'm looking at storage units to store my future hobie cat 16 since its cheaper than the marina. The door to the unit is 8' wide and 7' tall. The dimensions of the unit will be 10'x20'. Will this work? How wide is the trailer with the hobie cat on it? How long? and how high is the mast holder with the mast on it? |

You're right on the edge with the boat / trailer. Most 16 trailers are 8' wide, maybe a bit more with rollers, angled pads, clearance lights. You might be able to wiggle it in, but it would be a PITA to do. |

The boat will fit but with the rudders up and the trailer tongue will be close, the trailer will be tight on the door width because of the guides on the rollers (depends on the trailer), the height of the mast holder may be close (depends on the trailer). The mast however is over 26' long and will not fit straight back. Maybe if you take it off the support and put it diagnal in the unit but I am not sure. |

Won't fit diaganolly either even from the top-left to the opposite bottom right corner: SQRT((SQRT(10^2+20^2))^2+10^2) = 24.49489743 feet Still too short (that's what she said). |

Thank you this helped a lot. Looks like the 10'X20' wont work since I know the mast doesn't have a comp tip so its not in two pieces. They do have a 10'x25' for $50 a month instead of the 10'x20' for $45, so its about an extra $15-20 total. With this it sounds like the mast will fit diagonally. But is this good for the mast? will any structural damage occur if its only supported in the middle by the tramp laying diagonally. The marina is asking $200 for 3 months and I would be able to use their boat launch. Where the lake and where I live is 20miles away. So if i every want to go anywhere with the hobie I would have to take the time and gas money at 16mpg to go get it. The storage unit is about 5 miles away, so is it still worth it to get a storage unit? rather than having it at the marina? |

I am not sure where you live but for me just outside of Atlanta, GA I moved my boat to a marina with dry storage (mast up on the trailer) about 50 yds from the boat ramp on Lake Lanier. It was $700/yr with a required yearly contract. Compared to storing it in my back yard, towing it 20 miles to the lake, setting up the mast at the public boat ramp, paying the $3 ramp fee and hoping there is a parking spot, I will be using the boat a lot more with it at the lake. You just need to make your own decisions as to what works for you, good luck. |
