Post subject:  Failed A-Frame on Bravo

Hey Everyone,

Was sailing my Bravo in about 12 mph winds when the front post on the A-frame supporting the mast failed at the lower rivets. Fortunately, was up wind from the house and able to sail the boat in, while the mast was canted at about a 45 degree angle.

Upon inspection, it appears, corrosion on the bar that holds the A-frame forward post appears to be the culprit. Looks like galvanic corrosion where the rivets held the post to the lower rod weakened the rod and it snapped off.

I know I have seen a post on how to repair this, but can't find it. Anyone have any thoughts?

View of the carnage attached.

Should be able to remove that part by unscrewing it from the molded insert - and replace it with a new piece (looks like it just snapped at the base from age and fatigue...not likely from just that one use in 12 mph winds - that happened over time) - Hopefully you can tweak the frame back into shape - but that might need replacing too.

- just order the parts from any Hobie dealer, the illustrated parts guide is located here: http://2010.archive.hobiecat.com/suppor ... _Bravo.pdf

Thanks for the help. I will try to remove it tomorrow. I agree that age and stress was the most likely culprit...not the wind in this case. Although, its mostly age/exposure as the boat hasn't had that much use

As for the A-frame...I will do my best to straighten it. Will probably have to remove it from boat so as not to damage connections. I have a dealer I can use for parts.

Thanks!
