Hi,

I´m about to go to the Caribbean, and was asked from a friend if I could maybe see if I can fix his boat. I know how to use tools, but I don´t know anything about boats. He just sent me the attached pictures https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B_hF9QG4dDkLNGY1MDRiODQtMGY2MS00YWI2LWIzOTktNDIyYWJkM2E4ZDNm&hl=en_US, told me that it´s a hobbie cat and has around 13¨. That´s all!

Now, I would like to know from you guys if you can identify the model, and what your suggestions concerning the repair are (considering the pictures: which damages do you see, how could I fix them).

Any answer is more than welcome, would be a pity if I could only use it as a kayak! ;-)

It's a Hobie 14 - a very dirty, old and tired one.

It looks like it's been assembled from parts - the traveler is pre-1975, the tramp frame, rudder castings and boom look much newer (and are black anodized - or painted). The mast is clear anodized.

It is missing many Hobie-specific parts, like the boom end casting and rudder cams.

The sail is not worth fixing. Too many holes and it looks very brittle.

This boat could not be restored to safe working condition without a lot of work, parts and $.

Yes, you need a Google gmail account.

Yikes! I agree, unfortunately its a big mess and i wouldn't work on it- its a project boat. And I don't shy away from too many projects :)
