I have a little Hobie that I am redoing I have a good idea about re gelling it but I am a little stuck on somethings.

Here is how I see it
1 .Sand out chips and spots , ruff up the old gelcoat.
2 .Wipe down with Acetone
3 .Mix gel with something to water it down(like styrene) to spray. Add color mix than add MEKP mix for one min.
4 .Spray some coats on the last coat add some wax
5 let dry over night sand and buff.

I live in Philadelphia PA and really don't know where to get my gel coat I do have a west marine here but I hear not to use them.
I think I have read and seen about all that I can but fell that i am missing somethings any info would be sweet

Thanks Colt

Search outside this forum (google) on proper Gel Spraying techniques. There are tons of instructions. Use West Marine as a resource if its the only one. Someone there may have done it before or go to a marina and ask around.

You have the gist of it, but are missing the oodles of nuances that can make a mess out of your project.

You can not "sand out" a soft spot. Soft spots are an indication of localized delamination. To fix them, the delaminated skin needs to be rebonded to the foam core. The most common repair technique for doing this on a Hobie is by injecting epoxy resin.

Good sources that I have found for composites products are:

uscomposites.com and fiberglasssupply.com. I have purchased products from both of these sites. You might also check jamestowndistributers.com. West marine is ok, but their prices tend to be high and selection is limited.
