Anyone have a recomendation or contact for someone in coastal NC to do repairs on a Hobie 16. The location is Emerald Isle, NC (on coast between Morehead City and Jacksonville). I have acquired an old, 1975, boat that needs a new mast base, traveller track and ruddr cams, etc., replaced. Only other recourse is tow it down to nearest dealer which is 2 1/2 hours away. Thanks for any help

Work like that is not hard to do, requires no special tools beyond a drill, screwdriver, hammer and a rivet tool. Labor is typically the most expensive part of any repair to a Hobie Cat.

Search this forum and you will find how-to's on all this work and more.

The less you spend on this boat, the better, since at the end of the day, it's still a 37 year old boat.

I can sail it as is but really needs to be brought up to snuff. The boat is in pretty good shape for 37 years old. No soft spots in the hull. Tramp has been replaced not long ago and in great shape. Sails good but had to have a small repair done on the main. Replaced all the standing rigging and trapeze lines. I have also realized that I will also need to replace the mast step to correspond to the more modern mast base. Got the boat for free so I am not complaining.

Mast step replacement:

Traveler track: Drill out rivets, replace track with new rivets

Rudder cams: remove springs from bottom of casting, drive out old cam rivets and replace cams (replace rivets with item# 5281 on page 22 of hobie parts catalogue (use blue loctite here)) re assemble
