I have a couple sets of H18 sails, the older of which has the dacron "puckered" around the jib windows. Is this shrinkage of the window material, stretching of the dacron, or both? The sails have since been cleaned and look great, but the pucker is bugging me.

Thanks,

Mark

It's the window material that has shrunk.

You can have the windows replaced by a sail maker, but there will be some residual distortion in the Dacron. Might want to go to a slightly larger window.

On the other hand, if your sail has this problem, it probably has other issues too. May be time for a new(er) sail.

MBounds,

Thanks for the response, I'm glad to hear that it's the windows rather than the sail material. I'll check into the cost to get the windows replaced.

I have another set of sails (Red Line scheme)that are in excellent shape, but my wife and daughter prefer this color scheme so I'll use them when they're going with me.

A quick update...the local repair shop is charging me $15 per telltale window and $30 for the crash window ($60 total) to replace the clear vinyl.
