Post subject:  Painting Polyethylene

Hello Everyone,

Quick question - has anyone here ever tried to or successfully painted onto polyethylene? I have an Outback and want to paint a small design either on the front hatch (which is rougher in texture) or along the smoother side of the kayak. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

to the best of my knowledge there is no paint that will stick. I don't think even Krylon Fusion will last on PE. your best bet would be to go to a sign shop and have them print your design on a sticker or "die cut" it out of vinyl.

You can try 1-shot sign painters enamel. I would test it first it's for pinstriping and and lettering in exterior applications aside from the Polyethelene it's EXACTALLY what your looking for.

BUT HERE'S WHAT YOU SHOULD DO. Get your design cut in exterior grade vinyl in some ways it's indistinguishable from paint. It can also be removed if need be and the colors can be beautiful
