Hey guys, I picked up a Hobie 14 about a month ago, now I'm doing some basic repairs. I notice my old connectors that connect the cross bar to the tiller arms were toast. I ordered a new set (Tiller Connector Kit) and am confused where the spring goes! does it go in the middle or on the bottom! Any input would help.

Thanks,

Neil

To prevent scratching of the hull decks, the spring (and nut) should go on the top (like the one on the left):

hmm no kidding...now I gotta go flip mine! Sorry about the bad advice!

edit: hmm just looked at mine. Its about 3" away from the deck with the rudders kicked up?

Old-style bent tiller arms? (pre-1983).
With re-drilled rudders, it could be a lot closer, too.

The real test is to lift the tip of the rudder up as far as it will go and see how close the bolt gets to the deck.
