Post subject:  pylon support

Had a major breakdown in my hobie 16 and seeking advice. The pylon (trampoline support) has lost it's support inside the hull and has slipped down through the hull (see image)Sorry can't figure out how to insert image. We removed the hull and when carrying it to the garage felt something heavy moving around inside. We are hoping to open the hull and see if the pylon can be supported. Anyone have any experience with this? Any thoughts on if it is fixable or should look to replace the hull?

OK, i figured out how to post an Image
You can see the pylon at the bottom of the picture, the hull is upside down on sawhorses. It has been moved back to original position.

Download the Sep./Oct. 2009 Hotline to see the article on pylon shoe repair:

Also, be aware that there are large chunks of styrofoam between the pylons for positive flotation. Those can clunk around when you're moving a hull about.

Thanks for the reply, I was able to find the article. It seems like the approach of the authors was to wrap the fiberglass arround the pylon from the top but we were thinking we needed to support it from the bottom. We have cut the flap off and the thought is to insert something that extends past each end of the whole that the pylon will rest on. Any ideas of material? We were thinking a piece of treated lumber covered with fiberglass. Also, anyone know where to get more of the high density foam to fill in the actual fiberglass shoe?

I have a similar issue (see post https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=68120 ). What did you end up doing and was it successful?
