So, my H16 hotstick is smashed and I need a tiller extension for the upcoming week in the Outer Banks. The dealer there doesn't have one but can order one Monday, overnight if needed. I'm arriving Tuesday so could pick it up on my way through.

Or, I can take the inner core of my Hotstick, which is unbroken for a foot or so, and fasten on a fixed extension tube with some sort of knob on the end.

Anyone been here before? What would make a good outer tube and knob for this? What would be a good overall length, for someone on the wire?

Thanks. BTW it turns out the dealer (Kitty Hawk) DID have both a Hotstick and a straight stick in stock. I ended up making one before I went down, but then stopped in the following week to get some other stuff. With a newer boat on the way I didn't think buying a new stick was the best use of funds so I stuck with my PEX special for now.

That straight stick is heavy, long and thin. Fine on a newer boat, but my weather helm would kill my hands with that stick.
