Post subject:  Rudder questions on a 1977 H16
I have a 1977 Tequila Sunrise Hobie 16.

I've been fixing her up and upgrading parts where I can.  

I recently got parts that have me puzzled.  

The stainless steal rudder pins only have a drilled hole on one end. The ones I am trying to replace are aluminum and have holes at both ends that kotter pins go through. How does the stainless steal pin secure it's self.  With a kotter pin at the top is just sliding it down throughout the rudder assembly sufficient to keep it in place?  I guess because the new pin is not a replica of the old pin I was unsure how it was supposed to secure to prevent it from working itself out and me losing it. 

Also the Rudder casting bushings (8062001). the catalogue says to open up the rudder casting to 7/16 and then add the bushings. Is that the part that is attached to the transom of the hull? Gudgueons I think it may be called? or do the bushings go on the part that cams are on? 

And another question..

So I just got my used Harken 6:1 low profile main sheet blocks from eBay,  And I intend on trying to rake back as much as possible.  However my Hobie is a 1977 and I do not have the adjustable rudders.   I'm anticipating needing to make a rudder adjustment to compensate for weather helm.  

Are there templates available that show new drilling locations?

The lower hole and cotter key are only in case of capsize and then the pin "might" work its way out... if the tiller arms come unlocked. I'd add the lower hole if you are concerned.

Bushings go on the castings / rudder housings (that the cams are mounted into).

Yes, gudgeons are the hardware that is on the transoms.

Also I watched your video on setting up the 16 (what looks like was made in the early 90's) on youtube a few times.. Good stuff.

It's cool seeing your still very active with Hobie Cat all these years later.

I was in the Marines at Pentelton years ago. And I avoided Oceanside as best as I could back then, too many Marines in one place always always ended in trouble. Haha. . But if I only knew about Hobie Cats then, maybe I would have checked out Oceanside more often.
