Does anybody know how to remove the centerboards for reparations? I can't see how to do this at all - or maybe they aren't removable at all (?). Thanks for any help on this.

Grateful for any tips on how to find used/low priced main sail for a 21 too.

The Hobie 21 built in the USA...

There is a stainless pin on the keel (front of the well) that the board pivots on. You will have to untie the handle. Remove the two screws from the pin and lower the board out of the hull. You will then see the springs which attach to the aft / upper corner of the well. The springs hook onto a bolt up there. Access to the bolt is through the inspection port.

Couple of things: You have to get the hull up in the air high enough to get the board out. You probably need three feet or slightly more of air under the hull to get the board out. The pivot pin is held in place with screws that are usually covered with lumps of epoxy or other fairing material. You need to remove that a with a screwdriver and a hammer.

It's easier of the boat is on a trailer since that gives you a foot or so of clearance and you need a couple more. I used to use garbage cans, one under the front of the hull and one under the stern.
