I am restoring an 80's H16 the mast base is broken free from the mast and the two rivet holes have torn out the small amount of aluminum that was below the rivet hole. What would be the best repair?

I could take an inch off the bottom of the mast and reinstall the mast base with new rivets, or try to drill new rivet holes in the cast mast base, thoughts?

Drill new holes in the mast base and mast extrusion and relocate the rivets. Don't cut off the base of the mast. You'll screw up all your shroud lengths, mast rake, jib height, main block height, etc.

Be sure to use stainless rivets.
