Post subject:  Furler re-build....frozen screw

So I picked up a used H18 furler off the Forum, and bought the kit from a Dealer....
borrowed some snap-ring pliers, watched Jeremy/Surf City's video, and set to work.

Usual snags.... wife does not like me working on the dining room table, then she helped me
with the removal of the larger snap ring.
From what I can see, this furler must have been salt water sailed, there is some corrosion,
and there are no bearings!

How do I loosen the s/steel screw that locks the drum onto the centre metal part?
WD-40? Heat? Do I destroy the drum, and then vice-grip the head of the screw so I can extract it?

Sometimes, the simplest things in the world don't turn out the way you expect.....
Anything else I should watch out for?

I would soak in WD-40, liquid wrench, or PB Blaster and then remove the screw.

John - I just did mine last week. Had the same issue: tried soaking in WD-40 overnight - to no avail. Ended up cutting away the plastic drum with a hacksaw until only the screw was left. Still wouldnt budge. Then I managed to get the head of the screw into a vice and rotate the furler. That did the trick. Sure to use grease when re-installing; good for lube, and holds the bearings in place while you put it back together.
