It never happens when raising the sail, only when lowering it. When it gets stuck on the butt joint, and I raise it to free the jam, it pulls the last few inches of the sail out of the track. This has happened twice in the last couple of months. My thought is that the plastic guide on the comp-tip is not rigid enough to ensure the sail doesn't hang up on the joint, and doesn't keep it in track under that condition. Dry lube helps it to avoid the initial hang up, but I think it would also make it easier to jump the track.
