My Hobie 17 has a small problem with blistering, as well as some stress cracks. On one particular crack, the fiberglass is bulging. To further explain this, the crack is about 6-10 inches from the dead bottom of the hull, in the area where it is rounding into the bottom of the hull. This crack has interrupted the roundness, causing somewhat of a "peak". Basically the crack has allowed the hull to lose some of its shape and push outward. My plans for this repair were to sand down to the bare fiberglass, lay a 4" stip of fiberglass tape the length of the crack (and past to prevent traveling), and gelcoat over this. Will this crack and bulge lead to further problems? Should it be taken to a professional? Thanks for any help!
