I've been a visitor to the forum for a very long time and really appreciate all of the great stuff that I have learned from everyone that contributes. I figured that it was finally time for me to join in on the fun.

I was wondering what the current wisdom is in regards to when it is prudent to replace the standing rigging on a Getaway. I live in central Florida so I am blessed with lots of great weather during the year to get out on the lake. The boat's been in salt water but not very many times since I bought it mostly new in 2003.

I love going out in blustery weather when the boat will just FLY. I have this image in the back of my head of blasting along with the boat going strong when one of the stays lets go and the rig goes down.

I inspect the wires closely every time I set up the rig to go sailing. I haven't noticed anything unusual but it is the unseen or unseeable that I worry about.

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom to share?

heavy air sailing virtually year round. I'd put the 2-3 year into effect. There is almost no way to tell the wires are bad till the mast hits the water. Its a good insurance policy.

Thanks for the advice. I'm sure that the peace of mind is worth the expense.
