Roy, I feel for you. I grew up in and learned to sail in that hot-bed of sailing, the state of Iowa. I, too, would count the days between the ice going out of the lake to the first day that I dared to put my boat in the water. Then I got tired of scraping ice off of my car's windshield and moved as far south as I could go yet still be in the U.S. - I moved to the Florida Keys.
Now I live here in central Florida and the sailing this spring has been excellent. Average high temp for the past few weeks has been around 78 with winds blowing between 10 - 15. Of course, the one regatta that I was able to go on the first weekend of April was flat calm on the first day and 4 - 6 knots the second. The day before and the day after the regatta we had 20 - 25 knot winds!
Hang in there - it won't be long before you're out enjoying your Getaway.
