If you're interested in mounting a compass on your Getaway, you might want to check out Sunto's Aqua Pioneer compass.

This small unit was originally developped for kayaks and mounts with a plastic adapter on any flat surface. The adapter allows you to quickly remove the compass when you're not using the boat (preventing theft).

I mounted two of them, on each of the cooler lids, which makes it very convenient to check my heading regardless of the tack.

While these little compasses often retail for as much as $45, you can get them from Optics Giant (http://www.opticsgiant.com/suunaqpionco.html) for $22 each. Note: I don't work for either Suunto or Optics Giant, but this was such a good deal, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share it.
