Well, the 2010 shakedown cruise is complete. The day got started late due to a lack of wind but we finally made it out. After a jibe to head back to shore for some lunch I heard a pop and looked around to see what the situation was.

Well, a quick survey revealed that the mainsail was sagging from the top of the mast and I could see the wire from the halyard waving to me. It appears that the union of the wire and the nylon rusted apart resulting in a catastrophic failure.

So, I come to you my fellow cat sailors for some help. I have not seen a Getaway specifc halyard but did notice that there is an H16 kit for comptip masts, is that what I need ?

Secondly once I get the right kit, it is really as simple as just feedking the line through roller at the top of the mast. As a note, I have an 03 boat that has always been stored outside and this is the original rigging.

I look forward to everyone'e input and hope to be back on the water soon!

I don't understand, can't you just get a getaway halyard from a hobie dealer in your area. Oh yeah, just feed it through the pulley at the top of the mast. Just make sure to thread it over the right direction. I messed it up once and had to lower the mast again to correct it.

After 3 yrs of sitting outside I think you better have a very close look at all the standing rigging. Replacement of all the standing rigging is far less costly than a bent mast or worse a structural failure of a hull caused by the falling mast.

Thanks guys. The halyard is on order. By the way, I put new shrouds on her fall '09, so we should be good to go.
