I noticed that I have hairline cracks in the plastic upper part of the mast. These crack are on the side of the mast that is up during transport and is exposed to the sun when the boat is parked. I noticed several of the other posts that talk about cracks where the plastic part of the mast meets the metal part. Mine in not like this. The cracks start at the joint between the plastic part of the mast and the metal guide sailchannel and extend about 1-2" perpendicular to the joint. Has anyone else noticed this issue and should I be concerned about the safety of the mast?
Thanks in advance!!

Hairline cracks are not uncommon due to flex or impact. The material is a thick layer of putty that is more brittle than the glass structure of the upper mast or "CompTip" as it is called. These are mostly cosmetic especially if hairline (fine).

Matt,
Thanks for the replay. If the cracks are only on the side that is up and exposed to the sun when the boat is parked, should I cover that part of the mast to reduce the sun exposure or rotate the mast so the other side is up?
Thanks.
Pat

Covers are always better for the product.
