Hello everyone, Just purchased a like new "01" Getaway.
It is in great shape, I don't know what the previous owner did with it, but sailing wasn't it.
The main is absolutly like new, and the tramp and wing seats are bearly faded..remarkable.
The only thing that looks bad is the jib and jib snorkel.
The jib is crisp just faded from always being on the mast and the snorkel is weathered.
As the wife and kids are buying replacements for Fathers day/ Birthday gift.
This will make the whole boat look "ship shape"
Can I rig the jib with a seperate luff wire or something to make it removable?
Any ideas?
Thanks for your input.

Mike

If you took the roller furler off then you could probable make up something like the 16 has, a forward stay that is just there to hold up the mast when you aren't sailing. You could hook up a block at the point where the stays are and a U fitting at the bottom. Hoist up the jib and cleat it on the mast. Personal I would see if I could get a better fitting snorkel to keep the jib out of the sun, I really like the furling part of the jib.

that's funny, the boat you describe sounds like one I sold last year. anyway, It's pretty simple to just take the whole forestay wire off with the jib each time if it's stored outside. You can simply detach it at the mast tang. I've also seen a pretty neat invention: a snorkel sown into the jib, so that when it's furled only the UV resistant material is exposed to the sun. Pretty neat if you ask me. Just a thought, but I believe if you sow the material about 4-6 inches wide along the outside furled side of the jib, this will work.

wakemakerx,

I have been sailing my Getaway since '03, stepping each time I sail. I would find it too time consuming to attach the jib each time I went sailing. Looking into a new jib sock would be my suggestion along with a good cleaning of the jib.
