Go for the Getaway, I've sailed mine solo in 15-20 kts and its a blast.
I can rig it and launch and recover it solo. Trailer to sailer takes about 30 mins. I'm only 145lbs sopping wet so I'd struggle to right it on my own, but the only time I put it over was when I did a big nose dive and my crew disappeared over the bow cos he wasn't hanging on!?!
To raise the mast I use the jib sheet rigged across the front beam via a small block on the forestay, then back through the jib cleat. just lift the mast into position from the tramp, one foot on rear beam to take pressure of initial lift, then take up the tension with the sheet while you insert the pin. can be done on the trailer or on the beach but is easiest on the beach with the bow down hill.

Sail and live life,
Omally.

Phil,

Congrats! and welcome to the club.

One more thing the wings are good for storing, a paddle. I put mine in the lacing under my wings. You will be glad you have it when the wind dies.

Congrats again!

I like to store things under there since they are off the tramp (in your case tramps).

I would say no for the righting bags though, because you will have one very high in the air (the upper hull) or one under water (the lower hull). I woudl suggest using the tramp lacing as an attachement point for storing the bag. This way you can reach it when the boat is capsized or turtled. Since it is a bag it is not going to bang you up like a paddle woven through the tramp lacing.

Dont know if anyone told you but Hobie brand righting bags leak like sieves. If you buy a bag go to Murrays.
But, heavy duty garbage bags are great. Alone or in your knapsacks.
Stuff one in each cooler.
When you get tired of dragging your Getaway around the beach, take a good hard look at Seitech dollies with the fat wheels. I bought one with my Getaway 3 years ago and it was worth it in 3 days. Buy the trentec tramp clamps asap to save your tramp too.
I weigh 195 and can barely get the boat righted solo, only in the best of situations and only if it all goes well the first time or two.
Make sure you have a fox 40 whistle, flares, cell phone etc.

The Wave is light and easy to set up, but I think you would tire of it fairly quickly. The Getaway is bigger, heavier and will carry lots of people and stuff. I don't know how old you are or what you weigh, but the Getaway can be challenging for ONE person to right. With two people is is usually not a problem at all. If you read this forum you will find that people have figured out different ways to right their Getaways solo.

Don't be afraid of the Getaway - it is a great boat that is designed to do a lot of fun things well. You will be very happy with it.

i was thinking that those old Army/Navy duffles with the grommets in them would be a great righting bag too...thread som rope thru the grommets so you can fill it up and tie it off...
