Post subject:  Getaway - Mainsheet Block - Question

I am new to sailing and have had my Getaway out a dozen times so I am getting pretty comfortable - except in heavy wind when trying to fly a hull.

Some advice would be great - When I sit on the wing the main sheet naturally pulls up and locks into the clam cleat on the main traveler block. It is very difficult to get it to release under heavy wind conditions - more than a few inches before it relocks- I guess I want smooth control and quicker response so I can dump air to control the flying hull. Or should I be controlling more with steering. I have been running the sheet under my foot to keep it low enough to not lock in under heavy wind. This doesn't seem right - suggestions - observations - reading material I should buy?

TIA,

Chuck

You can raise the angle of the block up a few holes. On both sides of the block there is a screw. Loosen the screw and change the angle of the block to where you think you can release it from the wings. All you need is a flat head screw driver and about 3 min. This is something that can be done on the beach before your next sail. I'm not sure which notch to put it in, maybe some other Getaway sailors knows that answer. If you have any question please feel free to call me at the shop.
