I've added rubber weather stripping to seal them but just can't keep the water out. Besides being too small, these little storage compartments just can't keep the water out. We're just talking about normal splashing from waves while sailing. Yes, we use waterproof bags for some stuff, but right now these storage compartments are almost useless while sailing. ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY IDEAS?!

I think you've found the solution. Waterproof bags. I've got a 1 foot (or so) length of rope tied to the front of the hiking strap on my Bravo, (I'm sure there's a better place to tie it off on the Getaway, and I use that to secure anything that doesn't fit in my front hatch. Usually I just secure a pair of Croc sandals, but I've often used it to secure a dry bag as well. It's simple, and effective. When I store things in the front hatch of my Bravo, and I can't afford to get them wet, I use the Pelican Micro Cases. They're great for little things like cell phones, small cameras, and car keys.

These Pelican cases look like a great idea! I've been using zip-lock bags in the storage comparments. Still, it seems like Hobie could come up with something better.

They might not want to imply or guarantee that it's a dry storage area perhaps.

My friend's Getaway sometimes get a lot of water in the storage compartment too. Usually happens in rough weather and we are flying a hull, the hatch does get hit with a lot of water then. Maybe the hatch would need 2 latch instead of one in the middle to provide a tighter seal.

They do leak but the second generation of Getaways have drains in the compartments. There's a TSB on how to adjust the lids for better sealing. But yes, two catches would have been a much better idea!

Hi,
I recently bought a 2001 Getaway and performed a leak test on the hulls. Small air bubbles are present near the twist/turn hatch covers that provide access to the hulls. The drain plugs are functioning fine, from what I can determine.

Any recommendations to eliminate the leaks from the twist/turn hatch covers ?

Thank.
Jeff
