Finally got some time to rig for the first time. Question.....I have the 2 blocks, one that attaches to the traveler and one that attaches to the sail...the long red line i have has a figure 8 knot in it that looks like its been there for quite some time...i am assuming this is where it gets knotted on the on the backside of the "eye" off the rear crossbar..i fed the line thru the middle if the traveler car, thru the cleat and started weaving it thru the 2 blocks until the last bit of rope was fed thru the middle rung of the bottom block and out thru the cleat,,,i think its right but there no good pictures of how this traveler/block system should be rigged....help, pics would be great!!!! |

thanks, but that diagram shows it tied off to the eye on the block.....with the getaway system, you dont tie it off to the block, you tie the end off on the eye on the rear crossbar....it doesnt show a clear picture of how to rig the system that we are using |

The eye on the rear cross bar is used for the traveler. The getaway main sheet is run just like on the other Hobies, for the most part. the sheet is still tired off to the bottom block just like the 6:1 low profile blocks. for some reason I think the getaway is only a 5:1 but I could be wrong, however it would still tie off to it's self somewhere. The bitter end of the mainsheet passes thru the swivel cam cleat, thru the traveler, which the mainsheet blocks are attached to, and then tied to that eyelet with a stopper knot. I will be putting together another boat this week. as soon as it stops raining from Alberto! I will try to get some pictures. if you can find any pic of any Hobie with a traveler they will all rig the same way. If it stops raining today I will try to get some on a h16. Cool, thanks....i am trying to imagine this....i tie off one end to the eye on the bottom block.....pass all that line thru the 2 blocks and thru the bottom cleat then pass it thru the traveler cleat, eye and tie that off??? so when u have the mainsheet line in your hand trimming the sail, there is no "end" to the line, its a continious loop from the mainsheet block to the traveler??? |

Making sense now,,,,thanks...also, when attaching the block to the traveler, do i have to use a shakle or just a clevis pin??? |

I have a 2005 Getaway - so I will assume our systems are the same. I believe your blocks are 5:1. To begin, the red line ties off at the BOTTOM of the UPPER block which hangs from the sail. It feeds down thru the bottom block, which is attached to the traveller, then up thru the top, down thru the bottom block, up thru the top block again and down thru the middle slot in the lower block. This brings it thru the cam cleat on that lower block. From there, feed it thru the swivel cam cleat mounted on the rear crossbar, then thru the round hole(I'm sure it has some fancy name) right behind it. Then feed it thru the center section of the traveller. From there go thru the padeye on the back of the rear crossbar and then just tie a knot. This gives you one continuos loop that you can sheet in and travel out with. Hope this helps. David |

Clevis pin, you may have to bend the traveler car a bit to make it work...well on the Getaway you can prob. just attach the shackle to the blocks and use the clevis pin to attach the shackle to the traveler. On The h16 we eliminate that shackle to achieve more mast rake! I would defiantly call you dealer and order a quick release pin for that block, that little ring ding is a PAIN! Hobie part number 20301, $18, and order the wire keeper too and attach it to the block so it always stays together, part # 20310 $1.75. These 2 items will take about 2 min off your setup break down and eliminate the possibility of dropping that small ring! one more quick question, when passing the lines thru the blocks, is there any specific way to run the line from the bottom block to the top and back down again??/do you cross them, keep them all on the same side of the blocks?? thanks |

refer back to the link at the top of this topic, and run it much like that, when you get to step 6, tie off to the upper block, as per "drgatsea". if there is a huge twist then remember what you did and redo it another way! have a great weekend sailing and be sure to let us all know how it worked out.
