I am trying to figure out how to get my getaway from the water to the top of a bulkhead in front of the house. The bulkhead is concrete and rises about 3 feet out of the water.

Anyone know if someone has already come up witn an elegant solution? I am thinking I need to build a ramp for each hull, probably with rollers, and then pull the boat up with a winch.

You can slide the hulls on PVC or poly tubes nailed down like rungs on a ladder.

5 moderately strong people can carry the Getaway somewhat easily. 1 person on each hull in the front and 3 on the rear crossbar.

We just carried the boat approximately 100 to avoid LONG waits at the ramp.

Cat Trax under the boat in the water and ramps up the bulkhead is another possibility. Saw this in New York (Long Island). Thay also installed a winch to get it up the ramps.

thanks Matt.

can you remember any details about the ramp? I am thinking about using two aluminum ladders - one for each hull for the ramp. Just trying to figure out how to convert the rungs of the ladder into smooth rollers. I could just cover them with foam tape.... but that will probably result in lots of friction requiring more winch force....

That ladder idea sounds interesting. You could get some PVC that has a bigger inside diameter than the diameter of your rungs. Cut lengths a little shorter than the rungs, then cut them in half along length. Put them back together around the rungs and wrap them with duct tape to hold them together. Now the reassembled PVC tubes are encasing your ladder rungs. Which means you've turned your ladder rungs into rollers. Who knows - it might even work!

We are thinking alike. I just about went down the path of making the rungs into rollers. But here is what I did instead:

Started with a 20 foot aluminum extension latter. Separated the two sections and bolted them today side by side for the base structure of a 10 foot ramp. To this structure I attached four steel pipe cross bars (fence bars from home depot), using u bolts. Then I installed loose fitting pvc pipe over the cross bars, fitted and glued pvd end caps on each end. I found a dock float (2 feet by 4 feet by 12 inches, 350 lbs floatation) at west marine and attached it to the water side end.

So, I just float the ramp out there, attach one end to the top of the bulkhead, and then pull the getaway up. I thought a wench would be needed but a couple guys can pull it right up. Seems to work well. I will take a picture and email it to anyone if interested.

Thanks all for your ideas. This is a great forum...

I use a old 20ft length of marine railway that we don't use any more. Bolted 6 2 X 6's which are carpeted where she slids on. Mounted a small winch at the front. The 1st 2 X 6 is cover with PVC dock bumper material which slids nicely. Can sail my Getway right on to the ramp.

Bought a dock wheel kit off ebay so taht I can pull the whole affair out of the water in the fall.

Will post a photo if I can figure out how to do it.
