1. I just bought the Hobie trap wires set for a Hobie Getaway. They seem too long and appear to be cut for a boat without wings (mine has wings). When the dogbone is adjusted as high as possible, it fits loosely on my harness while sitting on the trap. I'd like there to be more adjustment room (I think). How much should I shorten the trap wire so there is more flexibility with adjustment and the handle is not so close to my body.

2. Also, I connected my trap wire to the middle hole on the tang with the small shackle that was included with the Hobie trap wire set. Is this correct OR should I attach the trap wires to the large shackle with the shouds and forestay on the bottom hole of the tang?

Thanks

The shackle pin goes through the upper (smaller) hole. The hoop of the shackle passes through trhe larger hole. The wires hang on either side.

The wires are designed for use without the wings. The trap handle should be about 32" off the point where you sit. That should be just above your shoulder.

Any suggestions for those of us that already have the lines and the wings.

The handle is a bit low and I've been thinking of crimping or maybe even wrapping my line with tape so my factory handle is up higher on the line.

The edge of the wing is also a little narrow and I have been considering putting neoprene on the edge, either under or on the seat cover. I suppose if I didn't wear indoor soccer shoes that my bare feet would give better traction against the seat cover.

Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be welcomed

I guess the only solution is to shorten the wire, but still, Hobie Cat officially does not recommend trapezing from the Getaway wings.

Why not trap from the wings. Since most of the force is on the trap line, it seems like the wings should be fine.

Matt, why would Hobie not recommend trapping from the wings? Is there risk of damage? Have you seen problems from trapping from the wings? Unofficially, do you think it's OK to trap from the wings.

From what my Hobie dealer told me, if you trapeze from a wing there is a chance to crack the hull (where the wing brackets are screwed in). Yes, most of the time your weight is supported by the trapeze but in certain conditions there could be lots of pressure on the wing bracket.

How about removing the wings when it looks like you might use the trapeze? There are just a couple of bolts - is this an option?

The issue is loading on the mast...not the hulls. None of the wing load is onto the hulls. It is all on the cross beams. The mast extrusion is similar to the H18 and 20 that have diamond wires. The engineers just never signed off on the idea of trapezeing from the wing which adds loads to the wings and potential additional loads to the mast.
