Hi

Does the Gateway have a traveler ?
If not - can it be upgraded by adding one ?
What other upgrades I should consider if I
buying a new Gateway ?

Thanks

Ido

There was a thread about this a while back:

I guess it covers all the add-ons.

Make sure you get double rollers on your trailer to protect your investment and don't have to upgrade later.

Assuming you get the bench seats don't get the trapeze. Save your money as Hobie does not support its use with the bench seats.

STRONGEST RECOMMENDATION!!!! Replace the Hobie supplied mainsheet block with a Harken system. The Harken system is 100% reliable and bomb proof. The Hobie supplied system needs adjustment and often needs extra effort to release in high wind.

I found the Hobie cover to be more bother than it is worth. You have to cut it to fit and it looks raggedy at best.

I forgot. The tiller is the first thing to brake. Replace it up front with a Hot Stick or anything sturdier than the factory supplied tiller.

I've been meaning to replace the lower mainsheet block because, as stated it is very stiff in high winds. Which Harken block have you tried and can you recommend?

As far as the cover is concerned, I concur with you. I got the stock cover, but the next one will be made from two stock tarps (one forward and one aft of the mast) with the appropriate cuts to fit around stays and wing posts. The sticky velcro didn't last one season, so I'll use grommets with ball and loop lashing on my custom one for this winter.

This may not come up. Enter www.harkenstore.com and go from there if you have to. I did a side by side comparison of the old stuff with the Harken stuff that was hanging on the rack at my Hobie dealer. Apparently there is no choice of models. As best as I can tell the lower block is # 186 and the upper is # 004. I suggest you get the upper as well to ensure compatability. Does anyone know if this matters?
